Feeling Stuck? The Power of Simple Obedience

Ever find yourself feeling stuck?
Wondering why the door in front of you remains shut in your face?
I was talking with my friend recently about how the Lord asked me to blog daily. How He put it on my heart long ago. How over the past two weeks, the Holy Spirit has prompted me daily that I need to blog daily. How I just stumbled on some notes from a few months ago… and even then, I wrote down that God’s asking me to blog daily. (I forgot. Even though He keeps reminding me.)
Have I done it yet? Nope.
Sure. We can talk about all the reasons why. You would probably be out of your mind if you knew the details of the weight I’m carrying on my shoulders. And yet, God’s fully aware of all that. He sees it all even though no one on earth does. And yet, He’s the one asking me to do this one thing. To blog daily.
Can I do that? Yes.
Now if this was my own invention or idea… If this was my own striving or strategy… that changes my answer.
However, I’m confident I can do this because I’m confident in the One who asked me to do it.
My friend talked about how we often want the bigger picture and more instructions from God on what to do next, but we still haven’t taken that one step He asked us to do months ago.
Simple steps from God that require our simple obedience is a huge grace. It keeps us tethered to the Lord and keeps us from the pride of depending on ourselves. It also keeps us from overwhelm. It’s not good to know too much too soon. We weren’t created to be able to handle all that.
So. My next step God highlighted to me, one of them anyways, is to blog daily.
I believe we often have the next step but don’t follow through because we’re waiting for the whole plan.
Let’s not continue being deceived. Maybe we’re in a holding pattern. Maybe we’re in a holy delay. But if you know of anything the Lord’s asked you to do and you have not done it yet… it’s definitely time to do it!
What’s your next step?
What has the Lord asked you to do that you forgot about or that you keep remembering and keep not doing?
This is where accountability is clutch. My friend is going to text me daily for two weeks and either celebrate that I already posted or she’s going to ask me what I plan to post that day.
Who are you going to tell about your next steps?
And who can keep you accountable? Who can encourage you as you meet these goals and do the thing God asked?
In my experience, the keys to opening shut doors are long-suffering patience and prayerful obedience. One step at a time. Hour by hour. Day by day.
