I just celebrated my wedding anniversary this week

I just celebrated my wedding anniversary this week. Would've been 14 years if he was still with us, if I'm doing my math right. That same day, I had 2 interviews for my book on how to rebuild life after losing your beloved, and I was stung by a bee. Right on my middle finger. My middle finger. What do you make of that?

That sting is a teensy example of a trial but a good illustration. Sometimes we get caught up in the trials or attacks that come against us. Sometimes we get caught up in focusing on the hand of the enemy. Instead of pausing long enough to see where the hand of God is... often God's hand is holding our own or covering our hearts or shielding us.

Father, may the scales fall off. May we see that you are greater, your angel armies are more numerous, and you can redeem anything that was stolen.

Many people really like using their middle finger to express their emotions. But as I heal slowly, I'm learning that bit of flesh is important for expression through dance. It's where you connect with the barre or the hand of your partner.

Becoming very aware of my middle finger from the residual pain... it made me think. We can waste our time flipping off the enemy or trying to throw verbal punches back (which, strangely, some people really like doing) or we can throw our hands up, throw our hands up in surrender and fling our mouth wide in praise, praising God Almighty.

After carbon monoxide poisoning that caused me to struggle for every breath for 4 months including 3 ER visits last Fall, after finally feeling strong enough to go back to church.. then getting omicron literally the day before trying to go back, which came and went with fevers and chills off and on for two full months... Throw in a book launch, more family loss, and many other heartaches... THIS.

After 6 months out of commission, dance.

Yet I will praise you!

Have you been continuously knocked down, beat up, abandoned? Have the past few years been your hardest ever?

If that's you, praise Him. You've got nothing to lose. Praise Him, hang in there, and see what happens. Wait patiently with as much hope and wonder as you can muster.

Praise him in the mourning.
Praise him in the weeping.
Praise him in the rejoicing.
Praise him in the twirling.
Praise him in the head spinning.

Even #whenmountainscrumble, praise him.
