[DECLUTTER] The Storm Before the Calm
Tell me I’m not the only one! When I clean out the closet or the pantry, it gets a whole lot worse before it gets better!
I just want you to get that mental image in your head of the storm before the calm. Let’s take the bathroom drawer as our example. (This one is fresh in my mind because I redid it yesterday!)

I never think about taking the “before” photo until the after! But thankfully, I thought this looked pretty a few weeks ago, so I took a shot. : ) It’s not the whole big mess, but the taste of it will do!
Picture this. Your bathroom looks fine and dandy until you open up the top drawer. You realize it’s time to deal, so you start taking out all the things. The make-up and the pens and the knotted-up jewelry and the out of place art supplies and the girls’ hair clips and some old notes and old tooth brushes and pony-tail holders. A huge mess is strewn all over the counter when you reorganize your bathroom drawer.
And then you see all the yuck and hair and crumbs you need to vacuum up once you get the stuff out of those drawers… No matter how long that storm lasts, soon enough, that big storm settles, almost suddenly. The storm drags it all out and helps us identify what we need to do with our stuff. Everything falls into place, and what doesn’t easily gets tossed or given. Then, there is peace and order again.
I want you to visualize that mess in your head and know that it’s the storm before the calm. You may feel like your life is out of whack and nothing seems to go together and everything seems hodge-podged and out of place. Maybe you are moving or your season in life is changing and there’s a lot of uncertainty… everything seems tossed up in mess. I want to encourage you today. Maybe the Lord is stirring all this up to help you see what needs to go and what needs to stay and how to arrange those places in your life or in your heart.
Let’s take it to God today, right now.
A prayer:
Lord. Here’s all I have. It’s not much and it certainly isn’t pretty. But I give you access to all of me. Will you rearrange my heart, Lord? Will you rearrange my schedule and priorities? Will you redefine this space in my heart and purpose it after You? And will you help me declutter my house too? I want more of you! And less junk! In Jesus’ name, amen!
